As digital transformation becomes a cornerstone of educational modernization globally, China has actively positioned artificial intelligence and digital governance at the center of school management reform. However, existing literature remains fragmented across isolated subfields or heavily skewed toward higher education contexts. This systematic literature review synthesizes current scholarship on integrating digital transformation and artificial intelligence into school management within the Chinese education system following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Analyzing peer-reviewed journal articles retrieved from the Scopus database through qualitative thematic analysis, the study identifies several interrelated themes, including government-led policy initiatives, digital leadership as a catalyst for change, artificial intelligence-supported administrative governance, multidimensional organizational readiness, and data-driven decision-making, while highlighting persistent implementation barriers such as resource disparities, ethical data governance, and literacy gaps. The findings demonstrate that while top-down national policies establish strategic direction, sustainable school-level transformation depends on digital leadership competence, collaborative organizational culture, and institutional readiness. Consequently, this study highlights the necessity of an integrated digital governance framework that aligns strategic policy, transformational leadership, responsible technology adoption, and continuous professional capacity-building, offering actionable implications for policymakers and educational administrators in modernizing school systems.
