TECHNOLOGY-DRIVEN FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IN CHINESE E-COMMERCE SMES

The rapid expansion of e-commerce in China has fundamentally transformed financial management practices among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), demanding more agile, data-driven, and institutionally aligned approaches. This study investigates the role of technology-driven financial management practices in China's e-commerce environment, with particular attention to how digital tools reshape the financial operations of resource-constrained SMEs. Employing a qualitative library-based research design, the study synthesizes peer-reviewed literature published between 2010 and 2025, sourced from Scopus, ProQuest, and Google Scholar. Thematic analysis of the selected studies reveals five interrelated roles of technology-driven financial practices: (1) enhancing access to digital financial markets; (2) enabling real-time, data-driven financial decision-making; (3) supporting digital financial literacy and financial capability; (4) facilitating institutional integration and regulatory compliance; and (5) promoting strategic orientation and innovation readiness. The findings demonstrate that fintech adoption serves not merely as an operational support tool but as a strategic enabler of organizational agility, inclusive growth, and long-term sustainability. However, the study also reveals that the benefits of digital financial technologies remain unevenly distributed, largely dependent on digital literacy, leadership orientation, and regional infrastructure. The research contributes to an emerging theoretical framework of financial agility by extending the concept to incorporate human capital, institutional coherence, and inclusive design. Practical implications are discussed for SME managers, policymakers, and fintech developers seeking to build more equitable and resilient digital financial ecosystems in China and comparable emerging economies
