Abstract

Economics Education for sustainable development is a critical field that integrates economic principles with sustainable practices to address contemporary global challenges. This paper explores Economics Education for sustainable development. The concepts of sustainable development, strategies for implementing sustainable development, principles of education for sustainable development, Economics Educators qualifications for sustainable development, how Economics Educators should teach Economics to educate students to think and act in terms of sustainable development, topics that should be taught in Economics classrooms,  interdisciplinary competencies that can be learned through Economics Education were discussed. The study concluded that sustainable development encompasses not just environmental, social, and economic considerations, but also global responsibility and political involvement. The action competence that is required for sustainable development can be acquired through Economics Education in particular, but it can also be acquired in conjunction with other courses. The paper suggests that teachers of Economics should employ case studies and real-world examples to illustrate sustainable practices and their financial benefits, as well as emphasize the connections between economics and other disciplines like political science, sociology, and environmental science amongst several other recommendations.
