Abstract

Differentiated instruction is a learning approach designed to accommodate the diverse needs, interests, and readiness levels of each student. Through this approach, teachers can effectively identify and develop students' cognitive potential in a more targeted manner. This study aims to explore how the implementation of differentiated instruction can enhance students' cognitive abilities. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study method. The sample consisted of 21  fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Kelayu Utara, selected randomly. Differentiated instruction was applied over a four-week period using varied learning strategies tailored to each group based on their learning styles. The findings indicate a significant improvement in students' cognitive potential, as reflected by a comparison of test scores before and after the intervention. This study demonstrates that differentiated instruction is an effective approach to optimizing students' cognitive development and can serve as an alternative strategy to improve the quality of learning in elementary schools.
