THE ROLE OF COUNSELLING IN ECONOMICS EDUCATION AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT: A CONCEPTUAL ANALYSIS

The paper examined the role of counselling in Economics Education and career development. Counselling plays a vital role in enhancing economics education and supporting students’ career development. The paper clarified the concepts of educational counselling, Economics Education and Career development. The paper discussed the nexus between counselling and Economics Education, challenges facing counselling in Economics Education and solutions to the challenges facing counselling in Economics Education. The study concluded that counselling and Economics Education when combined effectively, can produce well-rounded individuals who are economically literate, emotionally intelligent, and capable of making sound decisions that benefit both themselves and their communities. The study recommended that curriculum planners should revise Economics Education curricula to incorporate counselling-related content, such as career exploration activities, goal-setting workshops, and financial literacy skills amongst several others.
